Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow 'Apifo'ou Family!

Admin Briefs

This is the final week of Term 3. The focus for this week has been the ongoing efforts to complete the syllabus. Meanwhile, some of the Internal Assessments for the Form 6 students were conducted this week, especially the Music and Food Technology. The afternoon classes continued also this week and will carry on throughout the one week break. The week was concluded with the celebration of the Closing Mass for the Term which coincided with our Marist Feast Day, the Holy Name of Mary.

The Holy Name of Mary

The Marist Family Feast Day was celebrated on Thursday at the Kauvai Parish. Representatives from the various Parishes, Nuku'alofa, Ma'ufanga, Lapaha, and Halaliku were present for the occasion. The Mass was led by Fr. Viliami Kiola and the Homilist was Fr. Patelisio Kiutau.

After the Mass, we all gathered at the Villa Moria Hall for a shared meal. There were also a few entertainments from each Parish which added to an enjoyable evening. The college celebrated the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary on Friday and this was followed by a shared lunch for all the teachers and students. It was also a most fitting occasion to conclude Term 3.

As seen here below, it was a wonderful evening at Kauvai as the members of Marist Family celebrated together the Mass and then enjoyed the company of each other with the meal and entertainment.

It was certainly great to share light moments with some of the elderly members from Kauvai and Ha'asini, as seen here above.

Activities at the college

Seen below are some of the Prefects in front of the new Billboard highlighting the campaign against Cyber Bullying! This phenomenon is relatively new to Tonga but is fast prevailing among the schools here in Tonga and Apifo'ou is no exception.

Seen above is the Head Prefect Vitolio Faka'osi displaying his cooking skills after being assessed for his IA. This special dish is salmon fish cooked with oyster sauce, topped with pepper, chili and lemon, accompanied with garlic bread. Looks yummy!

These photos above and below were taken during the Assessment of the Music Department. The students performed either a song or a musical instrument.

We're indeed grateful to the teachers in Level 6 and the students for the ongoing efforts put into the afternoon studies as shown here above and below.

Seen below are the Under 17 Rugby Team and their Head Coach, Mr. Tevita Lavakei'aho jr gathered after Mass on Sunday to express their gratitude to Mother Theresa and the Carmelite Sisters for their prayers during their recent Tour. It's really wonderful to see students not forgetful of those who help them through life.

Vava'u Fundraising Concert!

The ex-students and parishioners of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish at Vava'u gathered last night to conduct their fundraising for the New Chapel Project at 'Apifo'ou College. It was heartwarming to witness the spirit of joy and generosity from these faithful parishioners! In fact, most of these people didn't attend Apifo'ou College but some of their parents and grandparents did! Some expressed the sentiment that they still look to Apifo'ou as mother of all Catholic schools in Tonga.

The St. Joseph the Worker Church at Neiafu remains an iconic landmark for Vava'u. Taking shots of the Church from different locations gives it this breathtaking aura.

Looking at the List of different Communio's in Vava'u affirms the true sense of being a Catholic! These shots were taken from the concert last night and we can tell that people gave their hearts to the cause, regardless of its size! Our sincere gratitude to the Parish Priest, Fr. Taniela 'Enosi, his Assistants Frs. Kite and Ika Kaihea, the parishioners of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish for their generous donation.

There are die-hard Apifo'ou Families in Vava'u and seen above are some of the children and grandchildren of the late 'Ofa Uata Tangitau. Seen below are Mahanga and Kalina, from the Fenukitau and Lavakei'aho families. Malo fau e 'ofa!

Fijian Connection!

'Apifo'ou College is home to the Fijian community in Tonga! The annual Fiji Day celebrations and other functions such as the recent welcome to the Hon. Prime Minister of Fiji, Mr. Rabuka, were held at the college. No surprise then when the Flying Fijians with the Fijian community in Tonga gathered at the College Hall for a farewell lunch before returning to Fiji. They also knew that the Principal is half-Fijian!

It's always a pleasant feeling when an ex-student reaches new frontiers in their professional career. Seen above is an ex-Cawaci student who plays for Flying Fijians.

Seen below is the Assistant coach for Fiji and former All Black, Aaron Mauger, enjoying the visit here to the college with the Flying Fijians.

Conclusion

May I extend to you all our sincere gratitude for your prayers and support for the college throughout this Term 3. We'll take a one-week break before resuming classes on the 23rd of September.

Please pray for the Marist Fathers as we enter into our annual Retreat tomorrow evening until Friday.

Viva AFC!
