Salutation:
Greetings your Eminence and fellow Apifo'ou Family! Welcome to the weekly updates from our beloved college for the fourth week of Term 3.
Admin Briefs
Another eventful week for the college as far as the extra-curricular activities are concerned. It's also the last week of the Sports season. The only remaining one is the Under 17 Rugby Team preparing for their Tour of St. Bede's College in NZ this month.
Induction of Sub-Prefects
Forty Prefects were inducted yesterday during Mass. These junior Prefects will work alongside the senior ones which will gradually allow their senior counterparts to focus more on their preparations for the external exams.
Seen here above are the newly inducted Prefects.
It's always affirming for the Prefects when their parents do the badging!
Tongan Language Tasks
The Level 6 students continue to engage in their Internal Assessment. This time round they're learning to perform a traditional dance as a group.
Seen above is the HOD Tongan Language, Mr. Haukinima Mafi, helping the students with the final touches for their Projects.
We truly admire the collective efforts of the teachers, parents, and especially the students as they prepare for their assessment. Certainly, it's not easy to get those traditional costumes ready in time. All the more reason to applaud them all.
Various Educational Activities
The Form 7 students have just returned from their Semester break and there's no better way to re-orientate them than to have an exam!
Seen above is Mr. Timote Solo with his Industrial Arts students. Seen below is the Form 4I students leading the school assembly.
Seen above is Mr. Tuiaki Latu with his Math's students during the evening classes.
Seen here is Vai'ufia Takau presenting the 'Ikale Tahi jersey of her nephew, Adam Coleman, who recently played against Italy & Spain. Adam's dad is the late Pau'u Afeaki, an ex-student of Apifo'ou. Seen below is the Principal trying to see if it fits.
Sports Wrapping Up
Netball
The Senior Netball Team became 3rd after beating Tonga High School and Tailulu in the playoffs. However, it was Liahona High School who won the competition after defeating Queen Salote College in the final.
Seen here is Sela Filihia, the Manager with the netters and the Coach.
Seen here are the reps from the different Grades receiving their awards. Malo lahi fanau e mateaki'i e Kolisi.
Rugby
Our Senior Rugby Team played off with Vava'u for the 3rd place. The boys played a tough game against a formidable Vava'u Team. They won 24-20 in the end.
Soccer
The toast for Sports this year is our Soccer Teams. The boys won the finals of the U17 and U19 making Apifo'ou the overall soccer champion of 2024.
Seen here is Mr. Taniela Tali, Head Coach, giving the final instruction to the boys.
Seen above is the overall Manager, Ms. Mele Leakona, and Trainer Siale Katoa with big smiles on their faces!
The victory pose after the game with the Tonga College boys. Well done AFC!
St. Bede's Tour
The Squad for the tour of St. Bede's College will march into camp this weekend. Thirty students have been selected for the Tour. Eleven boys played in the senior competition, so they will make up the core group to lead the campaign in NZ.
Part of the training is doing patching work on the roads around the college!
Seen here is the Tour Manager, Fr. Mateo Kivalu, Head Coach Tevita Lavakei'aho, meeting with the parents to finalize traveling arrangements.
Verification Visit
The Ministry of Education is expanding its operation to Church schools to check the quality of works by the teachers. Seen here is the Quality Assessment Team from the MoE with the Deputy Principal Ms. Laumanu Ma'afu going through the works of the teachers. This is a worthwhile exercise which will ensure the alignment of our operations here at the college with the Ministry and all other schools in Tonga.
Teacher's Quarter
A sight to behold as the new teacher's quarter is slowly coming into shape.
Our TVET Carpentry Section students are benefiting enormously from this Project as they're involved in the construction work. Seen here are the students with their Supervisor, Mr. Fetaiaki Vaiangina.
Ports Authority
We were blessed to receive the generous assistance from Ports Authority. The CEO contacted us that they want to help the college with truckloads of stones and gravels from the wharf. And who would refuse such an offer!
The truckloads have been unloaded on the spot for the new road that will run along the fence towards the new Chapel site. Malo lahi e 'ofa mo e tokoni.
Agriculture Project
The college Agriculture Project looks really good as the weather has been favourable. As you can see, the project is also well looked after this time round!
The 8 acres of cassava will be harvested towards the end of the year!
Mr. Kelekolio Finau Kama (RIP)
Yesterday at the Cathedral the Requiem Mass for the late Kelekolio Kama was held. The staff and students went on Wednesday evening to pay their homage to the family and conducted a prayer. As you all know, the Kama family are the ones who generously offered their land on which the college is now located.
Seen here is the late Kelekolio Kama during the chapel ground breaking ceremony. Toka a Kama 'i he fiemalie mo e nonga 'a e 'Eiki kae'oua leva kuo Ne toe ha'ele mai.
Conclusion
Thank you one and all, the Apifo'ou Family and friends here and abroad, for your ongoing support and prayers for our beloved college.
We pray that the new month of August will be filled with blessings and graces through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption.
Viva AFC!
