College Updates: Week 4 - Term 4

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and all fellow 'Apifo'ou Family!

Admin Briefs

This is the final week of Revision and Remedial for Levels 1 - 5 as they'll embark on their Final Exams next week. The Levels 6 and 7 are having their last week of classes before they begin their study week next week. The Level 6 students have successfully completed their final exams. Likewise, the Form 7 students have completed all their Assignments and are now focus on the end of semester exams. This has been a tough week for it has been raining non-stop for a week. Nonetheless, the college is still able to conduct its normal activities like school assembly and weekly Eucharist.

The weekly Eucharist is an integral part of the operations of the college. It is through the Eucharist that we draw life and energy to keep us going throughout the week.

School Assembly

The Level 2 students are leading the Assembly and the Liturgy. It's really wonderful to see these young students lead with confidence, especially as it's all done in English!

Effects of Climate Change!

It's a common scenario now that whenever there's prolonged rain, almost everywhere at the college is flooded with water! The Drainage System Project proposed by ADB has been put on hold due to some land issues according to the Geology Department within the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources.

Seen below is the weather-controller, St. Joseph, looking anxiously at AFC's plight.

These grounds were rarely flooded in days past. Seen above is the St. Mary's campus and shown below is the pathway along St. John's and St. Thomas Blocks.

Environment Week!

Last week the MEIDECC Department conducted an awareness program on how to look after the environment especially along the coastline and seashores. Twenty of our students took part in the program which was very beneficial by all accounts.

AFC Volunteer

The Coordinators of the Apifo'ou College Volunteers, Mr. & Mrs. Lolohea, continue to search for ways to help the college. The newest creative strategy they've come up with is to get volunteering Tutors to help the students prepare well for the upcoming exams. Recently, the Tutors have completed work on the Mathematics 2023 Exam Paper. This is now posted on the 'AFC Forum' section of the school's website www.apifoou.college where it is readily available for both staff and students.

In a recent program on Radio 'Apifo'ou, they're discussing the upcoming Reunion of the St. Mary's ex-scholars as they prepare to celebrate their 60th Anniversary next year. We have been informed that they'll repair the Verandas of the St. Mary's Levels 1 Block. It's heartwarming to know that the former Alumni of St. Mary's still have the hearts of their motto, "Do Whatever He Tells You!" Malo fau e 'ofa!

Teacher's Quarter

The chief carpenter, Mr. 'Alani Mahoni, and his contractors are putting the final touches onto our new teacher's quarter. Malo e ngaue lahi 'Alani!

Fiji Day Celebrations!

The Bishop Patelisio Finau and Knight Sofele Kakala Hall has been the venue for the Fiji Day celebrations over the years, simply because the Fijians here in Tonga do feel at home here at Apifo'ou! This year was unique as the Chief Guest was the Honorable Prime Minister Hu'akavameiliku.

Conclusion

May I take this opportunity to acknowledge all the support and prayers for our beloved college. As the Levels 1 - 5 embark on their exams next week please keep them in your prayers, just as we here at 'Apifo'ou continue to remember you in ours.

Viva AFC!
