Salutation:
Greetings your Eminence and fellow Apifo'ou Family!
Admin Briefs
This is the first week of exams for the Levels 1 - 5. A minor hiccup was caused by the heavy downpour last weekend! A few of the classrooms were flooded so the teachers and students had to clear the water out before they started the exams! Nonetheless, the final exams progressed smoothly after that small distraction. This is also the last week of classes for Levels 6 & 7. Their week was concluded with a Prayer Day which was held at the Villa Malia Hall at Longoteme.
School Advisory Board (SAB)
The SAB held its final meeting for the year on Tuesday. The Chairman of the Board, Mr. Frank Halafihi, thanked all the members for the wonderful spirit of collaboration and journeying together with the staff and students of the college. After the meeting at the college the Board members were treated to a thanksgiving dinner at the Waterfront Restaurant, hosted by the Chairman.
One of the board members proposed that the Board should perhaps have those meetings more often at the restaurant instead of at the college.
Final Exams for Levels 1 - 5
Despite the minor hiccup with the flooding of the classrooms, the students appeared to remain focused and committed to their exams.
The St. Thomas Block is frequently used for the exams when the number of students is huge. Besides, it's one of the newest set of classrooms that we have. Seen below are the F7 students sitting their final exams.
The next set of pictures is from the Form 4 Block during their exams.
The next lots of photos are from the St. Mary's Campus of the college.
Prayer Day for Levels 6 & 7
All the efforts of the teachers and students throughout the year was wrapped up with a Prayer Day today at Longoteme. It's a timely reminder to all the staff and students that only in God will our efforts be brought to fruition.
The Prayer Day was concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist led by Fr. Valu.
Highest amount of rainfall ever recorded!
The heavy rain over the weekend was the highest amount of rainfall ever recorded according to Tonga's Meteorological Department. You may have seen the flooding in the last updates. Well, this one beats those ones and all others before then!
Some places at the college used to be rarely flooded like this side of the Hall to the Gas Depot. Well, not anymore! One can see the wavy ripples there as well.
The St. Mary's Campus has been flooded before, but this time around it's almost at the same level as the rugby grounds on the seafront area of the college.
School Agriculture Project
On a brighter note, we're going to harvest the 8 acres of cassava belonging to the College Agriculture Project in the last week of November in the hope that it may provide some timely Christmas bonuses for our hardworking & underpaid teachers.
Seen above is farm manager, Mr. Nadi Mahe, displaying a cassava root that was damaged by the winds. Seen below is Mr. Minoru Nishi Jr who has again kindly offered to buy the cassava products from this project. Malo fau e fie tokoni.
Conclusion
May I extend to you all our sincere gratitude for all your prayers and support for our beloved college, 'Apifo'ou. Please continue to pray for our students as they'll resume their exams next week.
We're coming to the end of the month of the Rosary, so we pray that our Blessed Mother will continue to watch over us all, the 'Apifo'ou Family, both here and abroad.
Viva AFC!
