Greetings Your Eminence and 'Apifo'ou Family!
The college held its Inter-House Sports Competition last week on Friday and Saturday. There was a change from previous years where the event was normally held in week 3. The rationale behind the change to have it in week 5 is to raise the standard of competition. Indeed, that purpose was achieved as the 12 houses competed well. The former champ, Tomasi House, was dethroned this year by Saimone House. The marching competition was colorful and more disciplined due to the effects of the Cadet Training, which was awarded to Sutita House by the Chief Guest, Fr. Sepa Makaohi.
After the school Mass yesterday the whole school marched on and assembled in front of the new statue of St. Joseph for the blessing of this new statue. We're grateful to the 'Uhatafe family from Lapaha for this generous donation.
The staff and students witnessed to a bit of a miracle yesterday as I announced before Mass that St. Joseph controls the weather! Yesterday, it started raining from morning right through to the afternoon. But as soon as the final prayer was done and we marched on to the statue, the rain stopped. It continued to rain after that. It's great that the staff and students witness to the power of their prayers.
Next week our athletic squad will march into camp as they prepare for the Inter-College Sports competition on the last week of next month. We're very grateful that a few prominent ex-students who have represented Tonga in international athletic competitions are helping out in the training of the squad.
May I extend to you all our heartfelt gratitude for your continuous support for 'Apifo'ou College. May this grace-filled time of Lent lead us all to be closer to God and our neighbors.
Viva AFC!
