Salutation:
Greetings your Eminence and fellow 'Apifo'ou Family!
Admin Briefs
The focus for this 6th week was the preparations for the 3rd Common Paper Assessments for all Levels which will begin next week. These activities are pivotal to the operations of the college as they should reflect the abilities of the students. This will provide the opportunities for teachers to tailor remedial exercises to bridge the gaps identified. Meanwhile, the U17's St. Bede's tour is at the final preparation stage.
St. Bede's Tour 2024
The preparations for the tour of St. Bede's are wrapping up as the Team will depart next Monday. The 44 members for the Tour had the opportunity to visit His Eminence, Cardinal Paini Mafi, yesterday at Kaingafo'ou. This is a customary practice for touring teams to seek the blessing of the Head of the Diocese. Indeed, the touring team and officials consider themselves blessed to have had that opportunity yesterday.
The next series of photos were taken from the touring team's last bonding training session that was held at Ha'atafu Beach.
A vital component of the Preparations for the Tour is the celebration of the Eucharist at the college. In addition, the Team also had the opportunity to attend Mass at the Carmelite's Monastery at Fahefa. They then had the rare opportunity to meet the Carmelites Nuns after the Mass.
Radiothon Activity
Yesterday the Team members engaged in a Radiothon program in the heart of Nuku'alofa. This is a common practice for touring teams from Tonga to conduct a street appeal so as to allow the general public to help with financial donations.
Seen here are the boys and Head Coach, Mr. Tevita Lavakei'aho Jr, as they gathered for the formalities before they were scattered on the main roads of Nuku'alofa. Seen below is the Secretariat Team in the control dais at the Basilica in Nuku'alofa.
Visit to Kaingafo'ou
His Eminence was delighted to meet the Touring Party, especially the students.
Seen below is the Head Coach Mr. Lavakei'aho whose mother, the late Taiana Lavakei'aho, was a classmate of His Eminence, Cardinal Mafi, at 'Apifo'ou.
Current Activities at the College
The students are still engaged in different activities as they focus on their preparations for the Common Paper Assessments (CPA) next week.
Seen above is the Enrichment Program Director, Ms. Singa Kaifoto issuing library books to the junior students at the St. Mary's side of the college.
The weekly assembly is an opportunity for each class and Level to showcase some of their talents in oratory, song, and dance! This week the Level 4 students did really well and were given a big applause by the staff and students for their great efforts.
As can be seen below, we're grateful that the teachers and students are still committed to the afternoon and evening classes.
Teacher Trainees
On Friday the staff here at the college hosted the 10 Teacher Trainees from the Tonga National University to a farewell meal. These trainees have successfully completed their Practicum and will return to the university to continue their training.
Such activities as these are wonderful opportunities to boost the morale of the staff and maximize the sense of camaraderie among them.
Special Visitor
Mrs. Peta Tausinga Kennedy, Executive member of our ex-students from Aotearoa paid a courtesy visit to the college before she returned to NZ. This was also a chance to brief her on the St. Bede's Tour as they will have two games in Auckland.
Teacher's Quarter
Once we see the roofing irons going up on a newly built house, it is a sure sign that the building is nearing completion! Well, this week Mr. 'Alani Mahoni and his workers managed to put up the roof on our new teacher's quarter.
Seen here below on top of the house is the man himself, 'Alani Mahoni, a former soldier who apparently is still more than capable of coping with heights!
Conclusion
Our sincere gratitude goes out to all our 'Apifo'ou Family and friends for your support and prayers. Please continue to pray for our students as they prepare to embark on their exams next week and also for the Touring Party to St. Bede's in Christchurch, NZ.
Viva AFC!
