College Updates: Week 7 - Term 2

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family! Trust this finds you all in good health amidst the ongoing threat and restrictions due to COVID-19.

Admin Briefs:

~ This is week 7 of Term 2 and teachers have begun their revision before they embark on the Mid-Year exams which will begin on the 9th of June. Some senior forms are also conducting their IA's and hopefully they'll get it out of the way so that they can focus on the exams.

TV Interview:

~ Some of you may have watched on TV last night the interview involving me as I announced the cancellation of all sporting events for this year in my capacity as Chairman of the Executive Committee for Sports under the umbrella of the Tonga Principals' Association. It was good to clear the air so that all schools can now focus on improving the learning outcomes of their students.

Construction Works:

~ The Ca'Bella contractors are progressing well with the 6th and 7th new classrooms (photos 010 & 028) on the southern side of the St. Mary's admin block.

Currently, they're doing the paintings of the walls and interior of the 4th and 5th classrooms on the northern side (photos 020 & 022). Meanwhile, they're also putting the final touches to the first 3 new classrooms opposite the tennis courts. The buildings look really solid and I'm told that the government has ensured that all these buildings adhere to standard codes, rendering them strong enough to withstand category 5 cyclones, what is sometimes referred to as cyclonic standard!

~ The Leo Group are almost completing the painting of the Science Labs. They've assured me that the tiling of the floors will be done by the weekend. Meanwhile, our TVET people are putting final touches to the benches for the labs which they made themselves (photo 012).

Alumni Hala Fatima Aotearoa 91-2000:

~ May I take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to Fr. Line and the Executive Committee Members of the Alumni Hala Fatima Aotearoa 91-2000. They have sent us a container with assorted items (chairs, desks, cabinet files, etc.). This is perfect timing with the new and reconstructed buildings nearing completion. Malo e 'ofa mo e manatu ki hotau Kolisi ko 'Apifo'ou.

Heartfelt Condolences:

~ Our heartfelt condolences to Vika Matekitonga and family for the loss of her beloved brother, Mr. Taufa Tatafu. The late Mr. Tatafu was instrumental in the development of the college with his engineering and architectural skills. He built our Memorial Hall of Sir. Sofele Kakala and Bishop Patelisio Finau. May his soul rest in the eternal peace of the Risen Christ.

Conclusion:

Rest assured that wherever you are, you are fondly remembered in our daily prayers and Masses here at 'Apifo'ou.

Viva AFC!
